Struktacoat FAQs
-
All our oils are penetrating, soaking deep into the timber to protect it from within. This allows the wood to breathe without drying out, while preventing moisture ingress and egress.
-
We use penetrating oils as opposed to paints. The main difference here is that paint becomes a skin and comes off, especially as timber has its own natural way of expanding and contracting and moisture levels will vary with the seasons.
-
This depends entirely on the applicator, the weather at the time of application, the climate that the installation has taken place and also the immediate surroundings such as sprinkler systems and whether bore or potable water is being used in those watering systems.
As an overall and general rule, you will require 2-3 initial coats within the first 12 months (This is due to the oil penetrating into the timber, which is what it is designed to do), and then a maintenance coat every 2-4 years, again depending on the location of the fence. Regardless of brand, all oils will need maintenance coats for longevity of protection.
